ScreenPlay/Sequel 2.0 DV Equipment Compatibility

(ScreenPlay/Sequel 2.0 DVC1 Equipment Compatibility)

Last update: 08 Jänner, 2013

This is the current tabulation of the results of internal testing and user reports. Keep in mind two things when consulting this list. First, users are more likely to report problems than compatibility, so it's likely that many models not listed here are compatible. Secondly, compatibility is a high priority for Applied Magic. While hundreds of hours of testing and adjustment have been done, it isn't practical to test every piece of equipment on the market prior to software release.

Please help keep this list current by sending your reports, including compatible equipment, to dvcompat@applied-magic.com. If possible, include the make and model in the message header, along with the word "compatible" if applicable. When making a report, you might want to give the table entry that should be added. Many PAL units do not support record from DV. If you are reporting compatibility for a PAL model, please indicate whether DV Upload was confirmed.

Results of lab testing are shown in black. User test results are in green text. The "score" is a measure of the accuracy and reliability of a large number of "Duration Record" operations in lab testing, and is not included for user reports. A perfect score is 100.

The 12-bit/32 khz/4-ch audio mode is not supported by existing ScreenPlay and Sequel models. New units will support this mode for download only, and only use channels 1 and 2.

DSR-20: Timecode display doesn't update when using the "Step Forward Frame" button.

DSR-30: Using manual deck controls to play while in SP Edit, after stopping the playback, upload does not return. Entering and returning from capture screen restores upload DV.

DSR-200A, DSR-200p, DCR-VX900, DHR-1000: Some users have reported a serious compatibility problem with some units. With an incompatible unit connected, ScreenPlay may hang or lock up, or may fail to display the edit screen. When reporting this problem, please assist us by including the serial number of the incompatible camcorder.

AG-DV2000, AJ-D250, AG-DVC10: Although the DV Control appears, ScreenPlay may hang sending commands to these models. To avoid the problem, click the triangle near the "DV" Video Source selection to make the DV Control box go away. Then avoid hitting the "stop" button when ScreenPlay is not actually recording. AJ-D250:

For the AJ-D250, make sure the SETUP-MENU Digital Interface Menus are set as follows:
800 DIF Speed S200(0001)
801 DIF TYPE DVCPRO(0000)
802 DIF IN CH 63(0063)
803 DIF OUT CH 63(0063)
805 DIF REC SEL ERASE(0000)
806 DIF CONFIG 10
807 DIF NSTD IN OFF(0000)
808 DIF AUD SEL DIF(0000)

PV-DV600, PV-DV900: "I have noticed that we seem to "lose" the [IEEE-1394] connection between the SP and either camcorder, if we attempt to use any of the camcorders own function buttons (play / stop / ect..) When this happens, we have to unplug the [DV cable] and then reconnect it."

DVCPRO: SMPTE D-7 4:1:1 format used for PAL DVCPRO is not supported.

but... Locked vs. Unlocked audio: Mini DV equipment generally uses the "unlocked" mode for audio. ScreenPlay and Sequel output DV with audio in unlocked mode, and can accept audio in either locked or unlocked mode. Sony DVCAM and Panasonic DVCPRO use locked audio. Currently, DVCPRO equipment will only accept locked audio. DVCAM equipment will generally accept either audio mode, although some older equipment requires the following trick to force it to accept unlocked audio: Hold down Record and Pause while powering on the deck. When it beeps, release the buttons.

For an excellent discussion of this issue, and DV in general, see Adam Wilt's DV FAQ's.
